Future Will Method
The Method of the Will Calling from the Future
Midlife as the Gateway to Inner Freedom
When the old driving force runs out
In the first half of life an invisible force drives us. Family patterns, the expectations of our upbringing, the wish to fit in socially and our biological vitality all push us forward: to build a career, start a family and secure a living. But what happens when this wind dies down?
Around midlife, many people feel a strange emptiness they can’t quite name. On the outside everything may be in order, with status, family and security all in place, yet inside the momentum is gone. We often feel that we are only repeating ourselves and that the old answers no longer fit the new questions. Most people stay stuck in this state for the rest of their lives, repeating old patterns and no longer able to begin anything new.
The Future Will Method (the Method of the Will Calling from the Future) is not about reopening old wounds. It is about recognising that we have reached a natural stage of development and discovering how to find new strength for our lives there. It is also about connecting with the future that we ourselves shape and that our destiny calls us towards.
Instead of the “forces pushing from the past”, the time has come to connect with the current of the “forces calling from the future”.

The Spiritual Background of the Method
The method integrates the dynamics of the life path described by Rudolf Steiner with the process of individuation defined by Carl Gustav Jung. At its heart is the idea that a human life is not a straight line but a place of qualitative transformation. In the same way, getting stuck at midlife is not a problem but an entirely natural and necessary stage of life. Once we recognise this, we need a new source of strength, one fed no longer by the past but by the energies of the future.
1. The Forces Pushing from the Past:
The Web of Necessity
In the first phase of life, the past dominates. Our decisions come less from pure freedom than from the “baggage” we bring with us: genetics, parental influences, transgenerational patterns and our early environment. These forces work on us as if from behind, pushing us into life. We need them to get started, but by their very nature they are predetermined.
When the midlife crisis appears, it is often simply a sign that these forces are spent. They can no longer give us a new direction. They can only make us repeat the old one. As Steiner points out, if we try to understand ourselves only from our past, our free will stays hidden:
“When we look at ourselves as human beings—specifically as head-human beings—we must look back on our prehistory,
recognizing that in that prehistory we possessed the character of the will.”
Rudolf Steiner – GA 202
2. The Will Calling from the Future:
The Dimension of Freedom
The key to my method is guiding the turning point at which the client becomes able to sense a force of an entirely different quality. This “will calling from the future” is not a rationally devised goal (such as “I’d like 10% more income”). It is an inner, intuitive sense of direction. This force does not push from behind. It “pulls” or “calls” from ahead.
That call is what leads a person towards their true self. In his lectures on human development, Steiner stresses that the real agent within us is not our past personality but a deeper core:
“Who, then, is the actor in this [developmental] process?
The actor is the real, true ‘I’!”
(Rudolf Steiner – GA 141)
This “true I” is the one that speaks to us from the future and can lift us out of the endless repetition of habit.

How Does the Process Work?
This coaching is not advice-giving. It is a structured inner inquiry that helps shift the centre of gravity from the past to the future, so that the decision can be made in the present.
I. Becoming Aware of the Patterns of the Past (Recognising the “Pushing Force” of the Past)
First, we map the automatic patterns that have steered your life so far.
• What are the “inner rules” you have obeyed until now?
• Whose life have you been living? (Your parents’? Society’s?)
• What once gave you security but has now become a limitation?
II. Integrating the Shadow and the Rejected Parts
Following Jung, we look at what has been left out. In the first half of life, while we build the “persona” (our social mask), we banish many inner desires and abilities into the shadow. Freeing them releases tremendous energy for the new direction.
III. Hearing the Call of the Future (Activating the “Pulling Force”)
This is the most creative stage of the method. We work not with the intellect but with intuition and will.
• What isn’t logical, yet makes you feel truly “alive”?
• Which way would you move if fear or habit weren’t steering you?
• How does your “true I” speak to you through the possibilities of the future?
IV. The Decision in the Present
Knowing the forces of both the past and the future, the client becomes able to decide in the Conscious Present. Action then comes from freedom rather than from compulsion.

“We cannot live the afternoon of life according to the programme of life’s morning.”
(C. G. Jung)

Who Is This Method For?
This process is for people who:
• Feel they have achieved everything they were “supposed to”, yet still sense that something is missing.
• Are around midlife (ages 35–55) and looking for a new driving force.
• Don’t want outside solutions but want to recalibrate their own inner compass.
• Are ready to face the fact that old patterns no longer serve them, and are open to deeper, more spiritual (but non-dogmatic) self-discovery.
Connect with your own future
before your past decides for you again!
